WEEK 5

BOTH:
This week we focused on writing a single mother's story structure based on the interview with a single mother. We also together brainstorm how to interact with general data and personal data and combine the data and a person's story together. Based on last week feedback from Carman, we realized that our data is too general, so we decided to add more personal data. This week, we got one single mother's income and spending data. In addition, we found starting with the data makes few emotional impacts, and less attractive to readers, we together decided to start from one single mother's story. These personal data will be inserted into the story so that it is easier for readers to connect the single mother's data to the story, and even the readers themselves. At the end of the story, we will show more general data in order to tell the readers there are more other single parents similar with the person in our story. For the story interaction, the user can interact with the person in the photo and trigger the dialogue with the person in order to make the user immerse in the story and feel their struggles. (The detailed wireframes are in Nicole's section).

Kristine:
After we together did the story structure and brainstorming, I also helped Nicole do the first version of wireframes. I also imported anime.js on our website. I learned and practiced lots of text animation effects(in order to get more familiar with it) and used it on our website. Based on Nicole's current version wireframes, I refined the website front-end part including inserting the images, adding text animation.
my version of wireframes: users can click the person in the image to trigger the dialogue with that person.

This week's landing page to story transition(the text is not real)

last week- from landing page to data analysis

learned how to separate the text into letters and animate them individually

Nicole

For this week, I have informally interviewed a single mother to get story inspiration and understanding deeply on the single-parenting experience. The mother has discussed with me she was suffered from social isolation and difficulties of communicating with others by using English. She told me loneliness is really painful and she keeps to work because she wants to give her children a better life. Based on her experience and our imagination, we have structured a narrative flow for our website. I have also developed most of mock-up of our website and settle down with a visual direction.
